Michael,

While the blog title is “Ugly Mailbox” my tagline is “Unusual and Unsightly Mailboxes from around the World”. I initially began posting picture of “ugly” (in my opinion) and tacky mailboxes in my area. However, people started sending in photos of interesting pictures of ones in their area, so it’s really evolved.

I do have a life and if you’d bothered to really read and get to know about me, my readers and people who submit mailbox pictures, you’d find that we celebrate the uniqueness and craftsmanship of most mailboxes (see any of Ed Witles mailboxes which his family submits regularly to me).

While I may poke fun of some and point out some I find really tacky or ugly. The spirit of this blog is more inline with your philosophy than you seem to have comprehended.

Most of these mailboxes are not ugly, but represent a bit of Americana that makes life interesting. They represent the character of the persons living there, be it poor, audacious, exuberant, or with too-much-time-on-their-hands. I didn’t know mailboxes had to conform to the mailbox-police’s opinion of aesthetically correct renditions of monotony. Is there no avenue remaining for self-expression and creativity? Get a life!
