Unusual Mailbox September 5th, 2007

Ok fine, it’s a pelican and I didn’t take this picture. Found it in 26-red’s Flickr photostream.

This Might Be a Winner!

Ugly Mailbox September 4th, 2007

I post pictures of any unusual mailbox, not just ugly ones. Some are cute. Some are wacky but not unattractive.

But I love the hideous ones. The ones that make me think “WTF” and lock up the breaks and scramble to dig my camera out of my purse.

This one did for sure.

Really Ugly Mailbox

I guess they couldn’t fit the mailbox in the trashbag.

Mailbox vs. Suburban

Ugly Mailbox August 31st, 2007

David S. submitted this on Wednesday:

Our neighbors decided to let their 14 year old son park their Suburban. Bad idea as the mailbox was no match for the truck. Now the mailboxes are held in place with the help of a not-so-high-tech ladder.

How to Install a Mailbox Post

Uncategorized August 27th, 2007

Ugly MailboxHint: It doesn’t involve cinder blocks.

At some point in your life as a homeowner you will need to purchase and install a new mailbox. Installing your mailbox can be an easy and rewarding project if it is done properly.

After you have purchased your mailbox post, call your local post office to determine the correct height and placement for your post. You will need to know how high and how far from the curb the mailbox can be placed before you begin. Once you have measured and chosen your location:

  1. Dig a post hole about two feet deep using a post hole digger or a long handled spade. The hole should be deep enough for 6″ of gravel (to allow for proper drainage) and to set the post at the correct height (usually, 42″ off of the ground).
  2. Place the post and cover the top of the post with a scrap of lumber, then use a hammer to tap the post slightly into the ground to keep the post held in place.
  3. Fill the hole with the prepared concrete mix. Eliminate air pockets by poking holes in the mixture with a stick.
  4. Check with a level to make sure the post is straight and let the concrete harden.
  5. Shovel 2 or 3 inches of sand or dirt on top of the cement layer.
  6. Wait overnight for the concrete to dry completely.

Now you’re ready to attach your mailbox!

Bikini Bottom Mailbox?

Dolphin and Squirrels

For those of you that don’t get the reference, Bikini Bottom is where Spongebob Squarepants lives. He lives there with his friends Patrick the starfish and Sandy Cheeks the squirrel. Yes a squirrel. She lives in a glass bio-dome under the sea. Among the other sea creatures, like dolphins.

Ok, when you have to explain yourself this much, it loses some of it’s effectiveness huh?
